You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are expectation (s) or hope for this course as you are just started.
To be honest, before I started semester 4, one of my friends from the same batch forwarded a very long, descriptive paragraph about what we should expect when we enter semester 4 and I read it wholeheartedly. When it comes to the Critical Literacy part, or better known as the “killer subject” for this semester I was up to the challenge. The senior described Critical Literacy as a subject that will make students lose their sleeps even sometimes miss their prayers. With that, that was not a very good first impression.
"Reading and research", the strongest keywords that should not be taken lightly are the main thing that was repeatedly reminded for this course. As I am not very fond towards reading stuff that do not gain my interest, I expect this course to be tough. It is tough when I first started, you could feel the air inside the GS Hall when Madam Zar started to introduce this course and everyone was left starstrucked. As time goes by, I am learning something important, something that I could use in the future. The thing about Critical Literacy is it makes you think on both sides, which is something us humans, ignore most of the times. I have been hearing the word bias, credible and a lot more since semester 1 and only now I know how important it is to label articles as something that should be worth your time to read while having deep knowledge about it so you could avoid being on the ‘right’ side.
To say that my hopes and expectations for this subject are terrifying me is something that has never crossed my mind. I do believe that I am blessed with great lecturers as well as a fresh group of classmates that I will be working with. That is one of the challenges for me and not to forget, myself. Fighting with myself alone to complete this course without regretting anything is the only hope that keeps me going.
